DINNER, WITH A PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

Lauren and Ronn’s favorite restaurants.

For a special night out.

These are our favorites when we want a beautiful setting, a memorable meal, or an evening worth lingering over—all close to Casa Miranda.

These are our personal recommendations. Menus, opening schedules, and reservation policies can change. Walking times reflect Google Maps routes from Casa Miranda checked in October 2026. Times are approximate and may vary by route and pace; follow the directions links to plan your walk.

Leila

Approximately 10 minutes on foot

We love Leila as much for the design as for the spectacular food. Walking inside feels like entering a night sky, with stars overhead and a river-like feature running through the space. Even the bathroom is beautiful. We recommend experiencing the space, whether you’re sitting down for dinner or stopping at the bar for a drink.

Our pick: the salatim platter.

Our reservation tip: plan about 30 days ahead and check the restaurant’s current booking window. Reservations can be hard to get. If you haven’t secured one, we suggest arriving 10–15 minutes before opening to ask about a small walk-in table. Availability isn’t guaranteed.

Bacari North Park

Approximately 9 minutes on foot

We love the Mediterranean flavors and small, shareable plates—think tapas-style portions. Everything we’ve ordered has been fantastic, and sharing a few dishes makes for a lovely evening together.

Our picks: the pita and hummus trio, the beet dish, and the sabich.

We’ve generally found it easier to get into than some other special-night spots, but we always suggest making a reservation.

Mabel’s Gone Fishing

Approximately 8 minutes on foot

A fabulous favorite of ours. We especially love the bread-based dishes: the bread comes from sister bakery Secret Sister, which makes what we think is the best sourdough in San Diego.

Our pick: explore the bread-based dishes on the current menu.

Menus change with the ingredients available, so check the current offerings and reserve ahead.

Black Radish

Approximately 6 minutes on foot

We love this small restaurant for its fresh, delicious seasonal cooking and cocktails. The menu changes throughout the year, which makes each visit feel a little different.

Our pick: let the season guide you—we don’t name a single dish because the menu keeps changing.

Check the restaurant’s current opening schedule, menu, and reservation availability before visiting.
