For parents with little ones · Pilates together
If you’re traveling with a baby or toddler age three or younger and would like to fit in a workout, walk about 20 minutes from Miranda to Om Baby Bliss on 30th Street. A little farther out, Old Trolley Barn Park on Adams Avenue is about a short drive or a 45-minute walk. Pair it with a snack or drink at Hatsuzakura, a Japanese café nearby that’s fun to visit with kids.
Thursday afternoon · North Park Farmers Market
Take the kids to the North Park Farmers Market, about a 10-minute walk from Miranda. It runs Thursdays from 3 to 7:30 p.m., with food, produce, and plenty to browse.
Dinner · Tacos, then a treat
Walk about 8 minutes from Miranda to City Tacos for an easy meal. For dessert, Yog-Art frozen yogurt is right next door. A few doors down, Zonkeys is another fun stop for snacks, desserts, games, and its little glow-in-the-dark racetrack.
Another family-friendly dinner · South Park
For picnic-bench-style seating, burgers, fries, salads, and a relaxed neighborhood stroll afterward, drive about 5 minutes to Whistle Stop in South Park.
More kid-friendly meals · Burgers, shakes, or a food hall
For burgers with a twist, walk about 10 minutes from Miranda to Crazee Burger. Kids may enjoy seeing the menu’s unusual choices, including buffalo, venison, and alligator, along with familiar burgers and milkshakes.
For lots of choices in one place, drive about 15 minutes to Liberty Public Market at Liberty Station. The food hall has a wide range of foods and drinks, with nearby lawns and NTC Park for a walk and play break.
Also at Liberty Station, Corvette Diner is a lively retro diner for burgers and milkshakes, with a large arcade. It can be busy; the diner’s current policy says it does not take regular dining reservations, so check its site or call ahead about the best time to visit.
Any day · Hillcrest Farmers Market
If Sunday works better, the Hillcrest Farmers Market is about a 10-minute drive from Miranda and runs Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s one of San Diego’s largest farmers markets and a lively outing with kids.
BALBOA PARK
Choose a museum day or a zoo day.
Balboa Park is about a 10-minute drive from Miranda. Families can make this a full day at the San Diego Zoo, or visit several museums with a Balboa Park Explorer Pass.
For a museum day · Kid-approved favorites
Consider the Fleet Science Center, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, San Diego Natural History Museum, and San Diego Air & Space Museum. The host’s child especially loves the Fleet and the Train Museum. Check the Explorer Pass page to see which venues are included and current ticket options.
If you don’t want to buy a pass, pop into the Fleet and enjoy its free entrance-area activities before deciding whether to buy admission. The free area has hands-on things to try, including a ball-machine activity. Check the Fleet’s current visitor information for what’s open.
A playful lunch break
When you’re ready for a break, ARTIFACT at Mingei is an excellent place to eat inside the museum that visitors may not realize is also a lovely lunch stop.
COAST, ISLAND, OR ANIMAL ADVENTURE
Pick the outing your family will love.
Option A · Coronado by family bike
Drive about 15 minutes from Miranda to Coronado. Rent a family bicycle or multi-person surrey, ride around the island, explore the Hotel del Coronado, then enjoy the beach. It’s a relaxed way to see the island together. Find family bike rentals.
Option B · La Jolla Shores beach day
La Jolla Shores is about a 20-minute drive from Miranda. Spend the day at the beach or book a guided kayak outing to explore the coast and look for sea lions. For another memorable stop, visit the paid Cave Store entrance to Sunny Jim’s Sea Cave. Check ocean conditions and age requirements for water activities before you go.
Option C · SeaWorld
SeaWorld San Diego is about a 15-minute drive from Miranda and can fill a full day. A taxi or rideshare is an option if you don’t want to rent a car for this outing.
Option D · Safari Park for older kids
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is about a 40-minute drive from Miranda. It’s a great option for slightly older kids who are ready for a lot of walking. Plan to rent a car for the day, since it’s farther out than the other attractions in this guide.
Family-friendly dinner · Bivouac Adventure Lounge
Back in North Park, walk about 11 minutes from Miranda to Bivouac Adventure Lounge. It has a varied menu and snacks, couches and large tables, plus board games and other games that make it comfortable for families with kids who like to move around.
After bedtime · a local nightcap
Walk about 10 minutes from Miranda to Bottlecraft for local craft beers, wine, and a great cheese selection. Pick up something to enjoy back at your unit for a quiet nightcap after the kids are asleep.
For an easy plan: keep the rental parked for North Park, and use a cab or rideshare for the Zoo, Balboa Park, Coronado, La Jolla, or SeaWorld if that suits your day. The Safari Park is the exception where a rental car is helpful. Confirm event times, admission, transportation, and beach or water conditions before setting out.
